Peab expands drinking water pipeline system in Lund Municipality

Peab has been commissioned to build a nine kilometer drinking water pipeline between the Vomb Plant and Björnstorp in Lund Municipality. The customer is Sydvatten AB and the contract is worth SEK 190 million.

On behalf of Sydvatten Peab will build the Vomb Plant’s third drinking water pipeline to meet future population growth and water needs in southwest Skåne. Having three pipelines increases water supply security since they can supplement and replace each other, which means, for example, that maintenance on existing pipelines can be done more safely. The distribution system will gain capacity and be less susceptible to unexpected events.

“I’m pleased that Peab has been entrusted to expand the drinking water pipeline system for Sydvatten. This is an exciting project and we have extensive experience and highly skilled employees in this field. The project is also in line with our strategic target to be a leader in social responsibility,” says Göran Wiking, Region Manager at Peab.

The contract primarily comprises building around nine kilometers of drinking water pipeline, optic fiber cable, a measurement building and a valve chamber.

“The new pipeline will contribute to a long-term sustainable drinking water supply for around 400,000 inhabitants. The drinking water produced at the Vomb Plant is distributed to seven of the municipalities that are partial owners of the company: Burlöv, Malmö, Staffanstorp, Svedala, Vellinge and parts of Lund and Eslöv,” says Carl Nelin, Project Manager at Sydvatten.

The project is a traditional contract. Construction will start immediately and is expected to be completed in the spring of 2023.

The project will be order registered in the fourth quarter 2021.
