Peab builds dock in Skellefteå

Peab has been commissioned to build a new dock in Skelleftehamn. The customer is Skellefteå Municipality and the contract is worth SEK 1,132 million.

The surface of the new dock will be 7,700 meters and it is a key part of Skellefteå Municipality’s community development. The dock will make it possible for larger ships to dock at the port, a necessity for the major industrial investment being made in Skellefteå and the entire region.

The project entails dredging and erosion protection, piling, concrete work and supplementing equipment for the dock. In addition, extensive logistic surfaces will be created. Because the project has a clear sustainable profile ECO-Betong (ECO-Concrete) with lower climate impact will be used as well as piles made from SSAB Zero™, which is steel based on recycled scrap steel and produced almost completely without fossil carbon emissions.

“This is a technically advanced marine project where we can use our entire pallet of expertise and contribute to a vital function for Skellefteå and the region. It’s both exciting and very important to be a part of this investment the municipality is making for community development,” says Jörgen Eriksson, Region Manager Peab.

“After extensive preparatory work we’re looking forward to starting construction of the project. Together with Peab we’ll work actively to reduce climate impact in production and prepare the dock for fossil free operations,” says Thérese Bäckström Zidoli, Project Management Function Head, Skellefteå Municipality.

The project is a turnkey contract in partnering. Construction will begin in January 2024 and is expected to be completed at the end of 2027.

The project will be order registered in the first quarter 2024.
