Peab builds the new Färjestad School in Karlstad

Peab has been commissioned to build an elementary school that includes preschool at Färjestad in Karlstad. The customer is Karlstad Municipality and the contract is worth SEK 263 million.

The new school will consist of one cohesive three story building with several entrances from the schoolyard. Shared spaces for crafts, art and photography, media and a library will be built in the middle section. In the center of the school there will be rooms for personnel, the school nurse and special educators. A production kitchen and cafeteria will be placed on the ground floor in the southern section.

The framework of the school and the gym will be partially built of wood. The full-sized gym will be a stand-alone building that includes some stands and four locker rooms.

The schoolyard will be designed according to Karlstad Municipality’s new guidelines for outdoor environments for schools and preschools. The idea is that residents should be able to use the schoolyard after school is out. The school is also close to a woods.

“We are very happy to participate in building a school that will last for many generations to come here in Karlstad. We bring Peab’s extensive experience in building schools to this project, most recently from the construction of Västerstrand School. This knowledge helps us arrive at the best solutions,” says Nils Staffansson, Region Manager Peab.

The project is a turnkey contract. Construction is planned to start in the summer of 2020 and is expected to be completely finished in the fourth quarter 2022.

The project will be order registered in the second quarter 2020.
