Peab builds Sundsvall’s new logistic park

Peab has been commissioned to build Sundsvall’s new logistic park that connects to Tunadal Port. The customer is Sundsvall Logistikpark AB and the contract is worth SEK 734 million.

The logistic park will be a transportation hub. The project entails building a new combi terminal with establishment surfaces, roads and railroads. This will be a place where roads, railroads and ships can connect in one area. Unloading and loading goods here will save time and unnecessary transportation. The combi terminal will provide businesses with efficient and environmentally friendly transportation to and from Sundsvall. The current terminal has two 350 meter railroad tracks. The new terminal will offer three 650 meter tracks with the possibility to extend them.

“This project is divided into two stages. In the first stage which began in 2017 we planned the new combi terminal with Sundsvall Logistikpark and Ramboll. Naturally we are happy that we now have the go ahead to begin construction. I look forward to Peab contributing to providing Sundsvall with a sustainable transportation hub that connects trains, ships and trucks in our region,” says Jörgen Eriksson, Region Manager Peab.

“It’s really exciting to start up Sundsvall’s largest infrastructure project. Now we are ready for the next stage in the project and with the new logistic park businesses will have access to efficient and environmentally friendly transportation,” says Sven Magnusson, CEO of Sundsvall Logistikpark.

The logistic park will be the first to be built according to Ceequal. The system assesses and rates how well a project handles sustainability issues and is designed to encourage and reward clients, planners and contractors that make an exceptional effort beyond legal requirements concerning sustainability.

The project is a turnkey contract in partnering. Construction is planned to start in June 2020 and the project is expected to be completed in 2024.

The project will be order registered in the second quarter 2020.
