Peab builds rental apartments in Umeå

Peab has been commissioned to build 226 rental apartments in a new area of Umeå, Rödäng Gardens. The customer is Tornet Bygg and Projekt AB and the contract is worth SEK 306 million.

The new residential area Rödäng Gardens is emerging in Rödäng in Umeå as a part of the transition of the city borough. There is a school, services, good mass transit connections and a promenade close by. Here Peab will, on behalf of Tornet, build two apartment buildings with a total of 226 one to four rooms plus kitchen rental apartments. A parking garage with charging posts will be built connecting to the buildings along with green areas in the inner courtyard where planting boxes, fruit trees and berry bushes are planned for. The apartment buildings will be built according to Miljöbyggnad Silver and solar panels will be installed on the roofs.

“We’re really pleased for the confidence placed in us and look forward to being part of developing Rödäng as a city borough and contributing to Umeå’s continued growth. Our customer is forward looking and this exciting project offers sustainable added-value in the everyday life of future residents,” says Susanne Hallberg, Region Manager Peab.

“Our business concept is to build and manage attractive and environmentally friendly rental apartments in large cities, so it feels great to get started on our first project in Umeå,” says Tornet’s MD, Göran Wendel.

The project is a turnkey contract. Construction will begin in the first quarter 2022 and the project will be completed in 2025.

The project will be order registered in the fourth quarter 2021.
