Peab builds new university building in Umeå

Peab has been commissioned to build offices and examination halls at Umeå University. The customer is Akademiska Hus and the contract is worth SEK 280 million.

The 9,500 m2 building will be five stories high. The facade will be built with Stofix, which is a system where bricks are hung up on mounting panels. The project will be built and certified according to Miljöbyggnad Gold. The material will be chosen carefully for its environmental and sustainable qualities. For the most part ECO-Betong (ECO-Concrete) will be used, which compared to traditional concrete can reduce the concrete’s carbon emissions by up to 50 percent.

“We’re very pleased to be entrusted with extending the university grounds with a building that will meet the University’s needs of today. We really look forward to realizing this project together with Akademiska Hus,” says Susanne Hallberg, Region Manager Peab.

“Building sustainably and for the long term is always fundamental to Akademiska Hus and we put high environmental demands on how all our projects are developed. We’re happy to have Peab as a partner in creating a new building for Umeå University that will become the heart of the campus area,” says Ali Ranji, Project Manager at Akademiska Hus.

The project is a traditional contract. Construction will begin in December 2022 and Peab will turn over the building in the first quarter 2025. Landscaping depends on the weather and is expected to be completed by September 2025.

The project will be order registered in the fourth quarter 2022.
