Peab builds the block Gladan in Gällivare

Peab has been commissioned to build the new block Gladan with 85 rental apartments, a parking garage and commercial space in central Gällivare. The customer is LKAB and the contract is worth SEK 349 million.

The block is centrally located just off Lasarett Street. The block containing apartments and a parking garage will replace parts of TopBostäder AB’s apartment buildings in Malmberget.

The project comprises planning and construction of a total of 85 apartments in Gladan 3 and 7 along with a parking garage and commercial space. Gladan 1 will consist of parking for city center commerce. The block will be built with three low-rise buildings and a courtyard on two levels. The courtyard will contain places to sit and play, pergolas with garden furniture, a place to grill and planting boxes. The total construction area will be around 15,170 m2.

“We want to contribute to a vibrant and prosperous society throughout Sweden and we’re very happy to have been entrusted with further development of Gällivare. This is an exciting project and we look forward to bringing it to fruition with LKAB,” says Susanne Hallberg, Region Manager Peab.

“Transitioning the town is essential for LKAB to continue mining. The new block will be a positive contribution to Gällivare’s city center and we’re happy we can now start on the work together with Peab,” says Pierre Eriksson, Project Manager at LKAB.

The project is a turnkey contract. Construction will begin in August 2022 and is expected to be completed in the autumn of 2024.

The project will be order registered in the second quarter 2022.
