Peab has been commissioned to build Sunnerby School in Sunnerby in Nynäshamn Municipality. The project includes both new construction and rebuilding an existing school. The customer is Nynäshamn Municipality and the contract is worth SEK 197 million.
Peab will build the new K-6 school in Sunnerby outside Nynäshamn. The school will replace Kyrk School and parts of the existing Sunnerby School located on the site today. When completed, the new school will have room for 420 students.
Construction will begin with demolition of parts of the existing school to make room for the new one to be built. The new building will be approximately 4,800 m2 and will include a commercial kitchen, dining room and library.
"At Peab we have extensive experience in building schools and this is a particularly inspiring project for us as a community builder. This is truly building for the future. In recent years we have successfully built and renovated several schools in Stockholm and the surrounding area, among them Stavsborg School and Kumla School in Nacka as well as Västertorp School," says Fredrik Jihammar, Region Manager Peab.
During the project period Peab will also take on trainees from grades 2 and 3 at Nynäshamn High School. Students studying in the construction and electrical programs will be offered internships in the project.
The project is a turnkey contract. Work will start after the summer of 2025 and the new school is expected to open in time for the start of the school year in the autumn of 2027.
The project will be order registered in the third quarter of 2025.
