Peab has been entrusted to take over construction of the new jail in Halmstad as the main contractor. The project was halted when the previous contractor went into bankruptcy in January 2025. Peab will begin by focusing on enabling a secure and efficient restart of the project. The customer is Specialfastigheter and the contract is worth SEK 433 million.
The new jail in Halmstad is an important part of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's efforts to meet the greater need for detention cells in southern Sweden. The facility will accommodate around 80 beds and is being built in close collaboration with Specialfastigheter.
"We’re proud to be able to contribute to such a socially important project. We have to quickly familiarize ourselves with the scope of the project, secure the worksite and create the conditions for a safe and efficient restart. It's a complex project with high security requirements but we have extensive experience in community building and look forward to contributing with our expertise," says Andreas D'Arienzo, Region Manager Peab.
In the initial phase Peab will do the time-critical work to secure the construction site. Meanwhile extensive analysis work is underway reviewing the project's costs, timetable and supply chains. The project will restart immediately after summer vacations.
The project is a cover contract. The work is expected to be completed in 2027.
The project will be order registered in the second quarter 2025.
