Peab has been commissioned to build a new central kitchen at Stjerne School in Torsby. The customer is Torsby Municipality and the contract is worth SEK 111 million.
The project comprises building a new central kitchen in a 1,500 m2 extension. The kitchen will be dimensioned to handle preparing around 2,500 portions of food daily and will also have a standby function in the form of an island operation. This means that operations can continue even if there are disruptions in the community’s normal supply system.
The project also includes installing a new geothermal heating plant that will heat both the central kitchen and the school's existing premises. An emergency water well will also be dug on the grounds to ensure access to clean water in case of disturbances in the municipal water supply. In addition, a new backup power unit will make it possible to supply power to both the central kitchen and the school during longer outages.
"It's fantastic that we’re about to start the construction of a new central kitchen with a standby function in Torsby Municipality. This means that in the future we’ll have a modern kitchen with a good working environment and at the same time ensure food preparation and distribution in the event of a crisis," says Thomas Stjerndorff, Municipal Director of Torsby Municipality.
"This is an important project where we get to be involved in creating a modern and robust facility for the municipality's meal operations. The central kitchen will provide good conditions for both daily operations and the municipality's preparedness, while energy efficient solutions contribute to a sustainable facility for the future," says Sam Carlson, Region Manager Peab.
Construction is scheduled to start in the next few days and the project is expected to be completed in December 2027.
The project will be order registered in business area Construction in the third quarter 2026.
